We are a team of ADHD Treatment Experts psychiatrists, pediatricians,  psychologists, therapists, coaches and healthcare professionals in Louisville, KY with extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in Children, Teens, and Adults. Brian Briscoe, M.D.

Brian Briscoe, M.D.

Medical Director of Adult Programs
Board Certified Psychiatrist

Dr. Briscoe serves as Medical Director of our Programs for Adult ADHD. His passion for helping persons with ADHD stems from his own personal experiences with ADHD in a number of close family members, and he deeply understands the impact that ADHD can have on all aspects of life. Dr. Briscoe takes time to understand patients’ needs and designs treatments to help them experience lasting change. His excellence in patient care is matched with the breadth and depth of his knowledge. In 2016, Dr. Briscoe was named one of Louisville’s ‘Top Doctors’ by Louisville Magazine, an award that is granted by vote of ~3,000 physician members of the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

Dr. Briscoe graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from Centre College in Danville, KY. He attended medical school and specialty training in psychiatry with the University of Louisville.

Dr. Briscoe has been involved in research, published a number of scholarly articles, and presented for international conferences. He has served on the full-time teaching faculty for the University of Louisville Department of Psychiatry and continues to teach residents, medical students, and NPs through a gratis faculty appointment.

Dr. Briscoe has received numerous awards for research, service, and academic excellence, and is a recipient of the Nancy CA Roeske Excellence in Medical Student Education by the American Psychiatric Association.

He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Medical Director of Child and Adolescent ADHD Programs

Dr. Nichols has a strong reputation as an extremely competent, caring, and highly respected clinician. In 2019, he was named one of Louisville’s ‘Top Doctors’ by Louisville Magazine, an award that is granted by vote of ~3,000 physician members of the Greater Louisville Medical Society.

Combining years of experience in academic medicine, teaching, and private practice and a history of successfully treating hundreds of children and teens with ADHD, Dr. Nichols brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and expertise.
As Medical Director of our Child and Adolescent ADHD Programs, Dr. Nichols spends countless hours working with our expert treatment team to ensure our programs and treatment meet and exceed the needs of both parent and child. He is deeply involved in nearly every aspect of our Child and Adolescent Programs, helping to ensure that our members are provided with comprehensive ADHD treatment that works.

A Louisville native, Dr. Nichols attended the University of Louisville for medical school, completed psychiatric residency training at the University of Cincinnati, and returned to Louisville to complete a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. During training, he served as Chief Resident in Child Psychiatry and received numerous clinical and teaching awards, including several awards for Humanism in Medicine.

Dr. Nichols has been involved in research, published a number of scholarly articles, and presented for international conferences. He has served on the full-time teaching faculty at the University of Louisville as medical director of the psychiatry unit at Kosairs Children’s Hospital, and was awarded the ‘Golden Apple’ teaching award.

He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

Keri’s career as a therapist and coach brings her passion and purpose into full alignment. She uses her strengths and talents to help others use their strengths and talents to create a life that they love living! Keri believes in people with ADHD with her whole heart. If you are looking for a true advocate who is ready to help you live your best life, you have come to the right place. Keri knows that people with ADHD are creative, fun-loving, bright, resilient, and kind. More importantly, she knows how to help them live life optimally.

Keri has a Master’s of Social Work from the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Western Kentucky University.

Board Certified Pediatrician focused on the Treatment of ADHD in Children and Teens

Dr. Kristi Briscoe is a pediatrician who has devoted her full career to caring for Children and Teens struggling with ADHD.

Dr. Briscoe’s passion for treating ADHD stems from her personal experience as a parent in a home touched by ADHD. Dr. Briscoe understands the struggles that every parent faces while trying to raise a child with ADHD, and has engaged in extensive study in the treatments and parenting strategies that have been proven most effective for families seeking to help their child reach optimal potential in life. Her genuine concern for children, depth of knowledge, and ability to ‘connect’ with both child and parent have earned her an excellent reputation in the local community.

Dr. Briscoe graduated Phi Beta Kappa with honors from Centre College, where she majored in Psychology and Biology and conducted research in child and adolescent health psychology. She completed medical school and residency training in pediatric medicine at the University of Louisville and was awarded for work in the area of developmental/behavioral pediatrics and genetics.

Dr. Dan Guy, Psy.D.

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Dan Guy is a gifted listener and highly observant. These traits allow him to hone in on each individual’s needs. He can quickly develop a deep understanding of who they are and how we can help them lean into their strengths. He provides expert guidance to our program development team so that all of our members receive quality comprehensive care.

He is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 29 years of providing quality mental health services in a variety of settings. Dr. Guy completed his undergraduate work at Kentucky Christian University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Bible (Magna Cum Laude). He then earned his Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Morehead State University. He continued to work his way across the state of Kentucky, completing his formal education by obtaining his Doctorate of Psychology at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky.

Dr. Guy has had the privilege of working in a variety of settings throughout his career. While working in two of Kentucky’s Community Mental Health Centers, he provided psychological testing and worked with both children and adults struggling with issues from behavioral disorders to those struggling with emotional and thought disorders. Dr. Guy also served as the Clinical Manager at a Louisville hospital, managing the counseling services for an Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, a Partial Hospitalization Unit, a Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a Chemical Dependency IOP, and an Outpatient office. He has served as the Clinical Director for a local Residential Youth Services organization providing services for Kentucky’s youth who are in State Care and are in need of Mental Health Services.

Dr. Guy is skilled in the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy interventions, which helps individuals recognize the connection between their thoughts and behaviors, and helps clients develop skills that they can use throughout their life to deal with issues of depression, anxiety, mood swings, relational problems, and issues of self-doubt and self-value.

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

A Louisville native, Hyesil Adams attended Manual High School and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Bellarmine University. She subsequently earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Louisville and is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Her doctoral work focused on improving quality and translating research into evidence-based practice.

Like many members of our team here at Next Step, ADHD is close to her heart as something that she has experienced within her own family. She gets it.
Hyesil is passionate about her career at Next Step because she is "excited to be a part of a team that emphasizes comprehensive ADHD treatment.”

In her free time she enjoys traveling with her husband, cooking Korean food, and hiking at the Red River Gorge and the Parklands.

Heather Proffitt

Heather Proffitt

Director of Education Services

Heather was a teacher for 6 years, working with general education students and students with learning and behavior disabilities. While completing a clinical practicum in Applied Behavior Analysis, Heather began assisting families navigate the special education processes within the school system.

She trained as a mediator and used those skills to help facilitate conversations between  parents/families and the school system in order to secure the most appropriate educational services for children. Heather has extensive experience and training collaborating with all parties involved in a child's life with the goal of helping ensure all children receive the best education possible! Her work also includes helping secure accommodations for college students and teens/adults in the workplace.
