16 Books to Help Kids Understand ADHD
If your son or daughter has recently been diagnosed with ADHD, you have likely embarked on your own journey by reading books about ADHD in kids. It is equally important for your child to learn about ADHD and to understand what an ADHD diagnosis means for him or her.
Talking to Your Child about an ADHD Diagnosis
Talking about ADHD can help shed light on the topic, so there isn’t a mysterious cloud hovering around the diagnosis. The goal of your discussion is answer as many questions as your child asks so he doesn’t feel bad (or even broken) by an ADHD diagnosis. Remember, there are lots of strengths when it comes to ADHD, and we want to highlight the challenges as well as the positives.
Books can help you and your child with this process.
If your child is very young or can’t read just yet, settle in for a cozy afternoon and read together on the couch. If your child is older and/or prefers to read alone, try reading the book first, so that when/if your child has questions, the two of you can discuss it together.
But where do you start?
Here are 16 books designed to help children explore ADHD challenges, strengths, and everything in between. You can also find these titles at your local library.
