How to Use Visual Supports at Home
Hi, I’m Dr. Kristi Briscoe.
ADHD brains forget spoken instructions quickly—but visual supports stick around. They reduce
conflict, increase follow-through, and make expectations clear.
Here’s how to use them:
- Try visual schedules — Use icons or pictures for daily routines.
- Use checklists for recurring tasks — Brushing teeth, packing backpacks, etc.
- Post rules and expectations — What’s visible becomes doable.
A little planning upfront can save you dozens of reminders later.
