Using “Yet” Language to Foster Growth
Hi, I’m Dr. Kristi Briscoe.
One tiny word—yet—can shift your child’s entire mindset. “I can’t do this” becomes “I can’t do this yet.” That opens the door to growth.
Here’s how to build this habit:
- Model it often — Say, “I haven’t figured this out yet, but I will.”
- Prompt your child gently — “Hmm… not yet. Want to try a different way?”
- Celebrate “yet” moments — “You kept at it, and now you can do it!”
“Yet” adds hope to frustration. And hope fuels resilience.
